You might’ve seen some headlines lately about Congress and hemp laws — words like “ban,” “shutdown,” and “crackdown” getting tossed around. We get it — that sounds rough.
But before you assume the wave has crashed, let’s take a minute to float through what’s actually happening, why we’re staying calm, and how you can stay in the know.
So, What’s Going On?
A few lawmakers in Washington recently added new hemp restrictions into a giant government funding bill (what they call the “minibus”).
Tucked inside were a few lines that would redefine hemp and set a 0.4mg total THC-per-package limit — way below what’s allowed under the 2018 Farm Bill’s 0.3% THC by dry weight rule.
If passed exactly as written, it could restrict even non-intoxicating, responsibly made hemp beverages — like the ones you enjoy from Beach Break.
Not great, right? But here’s the good part…
We’ve Got Time (and We’ve Got People)
This proposal hasn’t become law yet — and even if it did, it includes a 365-day delay before any new rules would take effect.
That’s one full year for Congress and the industry to figure this out the right way — to separate responsible companies from bad actors and show why low-dose hemp drinks deserve their place at the table.
It’s also a reminder that hemp isn’t going anywhere. Like a good tide, it always rolls back in stronger.
The Industry Is Rallying
The hemp community is more united than ever. Retailers, distributors, and advocacy groups across the country are speaking up in support of responsibly made, low-dose hemp beverages — not high-dose or unregulated stuff.
And here’s a bright spot: new legislation is already being drafted to fix these issues and protect hemp beverages nationwide.
Here in Texas, our state law still allows hemp products with ≤0.3% THC by dry weight — so Beach Break is still in the water and going strong.
